Expanding and Increasing Faculty PD Opportunities

Faculty feedback about future professional development is needed. This is an opportunity to have a direct impact on an initiative that will directly benefit you and your colleagues.

Let the Student Success Center know what faculty really want, so the enhanced and expanded professional development offerings will reflect representative needs and interests. This is an opportunity to have input on statewide initiatives.

There are over 15,000 faculty in the state. The goal is 5000 responses.  This is where you come in. Would you please help by doing two things?

First, take the survey and let the Student Success Center know what YOU want for your professional development. The Student Success Center wants to know what topics would be beneficial, what challenges you are facing, how you want the training to be delivered, etc. Then, would you ask your colleagues to complete this? It will take less than 10 minutes, and it is anonymous. The deadline is this Friday, January 22.

Please contact Brigette Myers at bmyers7799@stanly.edu or Susan Barbitta at barbittas@nccommunitycolleges.edu with questions. Thank you for helping us work to benefit all NC community college faculty.

2020 Conference Refunds

In the wake of suspending the annual conference due to safety precautions of COVID-19 (commonly known as Cornavirus) the board will be issuing refunds for all registration payments made during the conference.

If you receive an email, it is because my records show that you or your institution have paid the registration fee for the 2020 NCMATYC conference by check sent to my office.  Depending on if the check was sent by an individual or by an institution means that the refund will need to be handled separately to best ensure accuracy.

  • For all of those who sent a personal check for registration, check your email over the next few work days as I will be making direct contact with you.
  • For all of those whose institution sent a check on an individual’s or a group’s behalf, I will be in contact with your institution’s business office to work out the best approach.

Please keep in mind that this will take time.  Like most of you all, I am also in the trenches of converting and facilitating all of my seated classes online, working with students virtually and collaborating with my colleagues on this transition.

If you renewed your membership in the same transaction as your registration: Please note that issuing refunds in this matter will also automatically refund your membership renewal that is tied to most people’s registration fee.  Due to this issue, I will need everyone wishing to renew their NCMATYC membership to do so using the Membership Renewal Form found on our website (http://ncmatyc.matyc.org/membership/

and paying either via Paypal/Credit Card or by mailing a check to the address in my signature line.  I recommend doing this soon after you have been notified of the refund to minimize the chance of “double paying” and your membership does not lapse.

On behalf of the board, we thank you for all of your continued support and appreciate your understanding during this time.  We are very fortunate to be part of such an amazing community of educators across our great state and cannot wait to see you all again when we reschedule our conference! Stay safe, stay healthy and we will get through this!!

Respectfully,

Fernando G. Schiefelbein, M.S.

CANCELED: 2020 NCMATYC CONFERENCE

We are sad to announce that the NCMATYC conference is canceled but happy to help keep all of those involved with our conference safe and healthy.

  • We have emailed a list of all of the attendees to the Hampton and Hilton hotel.  They are going to do their best to get all of the hotel cancellations completed by 9:00 pm.  People can call the hotel after 9:00 pm if they have not received a confirmation. The hotel number is 910-693-4330.  If you would still like to stay at the hotel, then the hotel will still honor the price and reinstate the reservation. You will need to handle that over the phone.
  • If you reserved at a different hotel, then you will need to take care of that yourself.
  • During the next week, the board will be trying to figure out what NCMATYC should do next.  Should we reschedule to a later date in the semester, have a summer conference, wait to till next year, etc.  We will certainly make this decision as fast as we can, so that we an handle any possible refunds.

We appreciate your flexibility and patience in the upcoming weeks as we move forward.

Thanks,
NCMATYC Board
