NCMATYC Mathematics Competition

11th Annual NCMATYC Mathematics Competition at Johnston Community College

The 2022 NCMATYC mathematics competition will be held on November 12th at Johnston  Community College.  The street address is 245 College Road , Smithfield, NC 27577.  If your school plans to participate in this great event please make sure to submit the 2022 NCMATYC Math Competition Registration Form , linked here, with payment, by October 28 November 4, to ensure the early registration rate of $15 per student. Late registration will continue through the date of competition, but the fee is increased to $25 per student.

General Information

Eligibility:
Any student attending a two-year college who does not have an associate’s degree or higher and has never taken a math course beyond the sophomore level is eligible to compete. A single-campus college can bring a maximum of twelve students. If a college has multiple campuses, they can bring up to eight students from each campus.

Content:
The competition will consist of two parts: a morning calculus exam (90 minutes, 40 questions, multiple-choice, calculators not allowed) and an afternoon team competition containing solely pre-calculus problems (scientific calculators only, provided by the competition organizers). Approximately two-thirds of the calculus exam questions will pertain to Calculus I topics; the rest will pertain to Calculus II topics.

Schedule of Events (Tenative):
Registration: 9:30-10:15
Calculus Test: 10:30-12:00
Lunch: 12:15-1:30
Team Competition: 1:45-4:00
Awards Ceremony: 4:15 – 5:00

Prizes:
•The individuals with the top three scores on the morning exam will receive cash prizes.
•The teams with the top three scores in the afternoon competition will receive gift certificates.
•The colleges with the top three overall scores will receive trophies.
•Amounts of prizes are dependent upon the number of participants.
